El Tabor Monolite

A 25-minute drive from Silvery, then 800 meters (about 2,600 feet) of climbing through dense forest. You go up with a local guide, two to three hours round trip. The view reaches the Magdalena valley. Start early: after 10 in the morning the mist usually closes it in.

  • Charco Redondo (swimming hole): 15 minutes by car, then a 20-minute walk, free and no guide needed.
  • Charcos de la Planta (swimming holes): 20 minutes by car, free and no guide needed. The one we recommend if you are traveling with children.
  • Aprisco La Ilusión: 10 minutes by car, great with children. Paid on site.
  • Mural tour in San Carlos: 15 minutes by car, arranged through Ecoguías.
  • Los Anillos and Cielo Escondido: trekking with an expert guide, through Ecoguías.
  • Bird-watching walk through Silvery's forest: led by our own staff, has an additional cost, and is scheduled when you book.
  • Other swimming holes and waterfalls are about a 30-minute drive away.

Most of San Carlos's swimming holes do not require a guide; a few do call for an expert guide.

Birdwatching at Silvery

At Silvery birdwatching is part of our daily life. We have conducted research to measure the impact of 20 years of conservation efforts in birds. We have registered 140 bird species to eBird and we expect to continue increasing the list.

Some of the birds you can spot at Silvery: Phaethornis striigularis, Baryphthengus martii, Galbula ruficauda, Ortalis columbiana, Driophlox gutturalis, Manacus manacus, Pionus chalcopterus, Psarocolius decumanus, Rosthramus sociabilis, among others.
